Rt. 322 partially collapses after strong storms bring flash flooding in New Jersey
HARRISON TWP, N.J. (WPVI) -- Crews are still repairing damage caused by powerful thunderstorms that led to flash flooding and lingering traffic delays in Mullica Hill, New Jersey.
"It was torrential downpour yesterday," said resident Jim Palmer.
The shoulder of Route 322/Swedesboro Road started to crumble during the storm Thursday, causing major traffic backups where crews are now working on repairs near Rt. 45/North Main Street.
"It just came down so fast and so violently. We even had a little bit of hail," Palmer said.
Action News has been told tributaries of the Raccoon Creek overflowed, which eventually led to the shoulder of Rt. 322 partially collapsing.
Officials said it could take a while, so expect delays.
Residents say the roadway is a backway to get to the Jersey Shore, so drivers should be preapred for more traffic this weekend.
"It's tremendously busy here. We get the warehouse traffic," Palmer said "Plus, this is an alternate route to the Jersey Shore, so the summer time can be very busy."

Neighborhoods in several South Jersey counties, especially Camden and Gloucester, saw anywhere between three to just over seven inches of rain, with major flooding.
Someone over at Rowan University, in Glassboro, used a kayak to get around flooded parking lots on campus.
Cars were totaled and towed away, just as students started to move-in.
