SALISBURY TPW., Pa. (WPVI) -- A Lehigh Valley police department heard some comical excuses during a speed enforcement detail on Tuesday.
Salisbury Township Police posted on Facebook, describing the speeders of "The Pike Avenue 500."
"The end-of-summer classic took place today, with speeders from the greater Lehigh Valley giving it their all in an attempt to win expensive speeding tickets and points on their driver's licenses in what has become the most popular racing event in the area, The Pike Avenue 500," the post said.
One driver, identified as "Frank's mom," was caught going 78 in a 40 mph zone. She allegedly told police that she had to rush home to feed her cat Frank.
Police said they pulled over "Big Mac" for driving 31 mph over the speed limit, while feasting on a greasy-looking sandwich.
Authorities also said a speeding "Swiftie" claimed he heard about the singer's engagement on the radio and was rushing home to post a message of congratulations.
Officers stopped a total of 91 vehicles, resulting in 87 traffic citations being issued.
Salisbury police wanted to make light of the violations to bring attention to the serious speeding issue.
"Until next season, please watch your speed, drive safely, and if you are stopped, never ask a cop if the donut shop is closed!" the post said.
