PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- SEPTA celebrated Black History Month by honoring a trailblazing Philadelphia educator and activist.
An event took place at SEPTA's headquarters on Wednesday to pay tribute to Caroline Rebecca LeCount.
She was a teacher who fought to desegregate public transportation 90 years before Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on an Alabama bus.
In March of 1867 Pennsylvania passed a law banning segregation on street cars.
LeCount tried to board one three days later and the driver refused to stop.
She successfully pressed charges.
