State of Emergency declared in Alburtis after severe storms

ALBURTIS, Pa. (WPVI) -- The Borough of Alburtis has declared a state of emergency after a powerful line of storms swept through Lehigh County, causing damage and power outages.

Strong winds toppled numerous trees and power lines, including along Fairchild Street in Alburtis.

Local officials are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from downed trees and power lines, and follow directions from emergency personnel.

PPL reported more than 7,000 customers without power Friday night as utility crews worked to restore service.

No injuries have been reported.

Officials said additional updates will be provided as damage assessments and restoration efforts continue.
