Street medicine brings care to homeless in Montco

Montgomery County Street Medicine was founded in January 2021.

This program aims to support individuals experiencing homelessness in the Montgomery County area. They provide a variety of services, including vaccines, wound care and most recently mental health sessions.

They also assist individuals with getting access to physicians, specialists and medication needs.

To date, the program has seen and assisted over 600 unique individuals. Nurses and volunteers with the street medicine program say that their ability to serve these individuals is built on trust. The people receiving this care understand that nurses have their best interests at heart and want to help in any way possible.

The Street Medicine team will make various stops throughout the day, primarily focusing on the Pottstown and Norristown communities. This will include community centers, temporary housing locations and even tent encampments.

Founder Casey Fenoglio says this is a program that could not exist without its various partnerships. This includes Tower Health Medical Group, Pottstown Hospital, Access Services, Community Health and Dental Care and Norristown Regional Health Center.

The program is always looking for donations from the community in order for them to further their mission.
