Students relish ride to prom in Oscar Mayer's iconic Wienermobile

TOPEKA, Kan. -- A group of high school students in Kansas really relished their prom experience with a ride to the big dance in an iconic ride.

Hungry for a different way to roll up to prom, inspiration struck a group of friends when they saw the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile parked in a Topeka grocery store parking lot.

"Oh my gosh, prom is tomorrow. What if they take us to prom? That would be insane," said Breckan Andrews.

"This is basically just a big hot dog limo," said Cooper Lietz.

So the friends had an idea.

"I asked the driver if they would take us," said Andrews. "I'm just used to asking weird questions like that, to be honest. I like talking to everyone, and it just made sense in my mind. You miss all the shots you don't take."

A few hours later, they got the call.

"They said we've been waiting for someone to ask to take them to prom in the Wienermobile," said Nick Hill.

That call brought the Wienermobile to a quiet neighborhood driveway on Saturday night.

But Hill said he had just one more person to convince about this - his prom date.

"I called her and was like, 'If I have this once in a lifetime opportunity to ride a really cool vehicle to prom, would you let me go?'" he said.

"I was having wild guesses, like riding on horses or something," said Hill's date, Kaitlynn Frye.

But she said she had no beef with the situation.

"Oh, I'm completely on board! This is better than a limo!" she said.

With the deal struck, they hopped on board and headed downtown to the big dance.

"I'll be able to tell my kids that I rode the Wienermobile to prom. I'm just gonna remember it for the rest of my life," said Hill. "There's not really many other people that do this."

"Not many people get to ride a hot dog to prom," added Frye.
