Trenton police officer recovering in the hospital after being shot

TRENTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- A Trenton police officer is on the mend after being shot.

The shooting happened in the area of Lincoln, Perry and North Clinton avenues, near Trenton Police headquarters around 9 p.m. Saturday.

The New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association posted a statement to Facebook saying that the officer will recover.

It adds the officer was "just protecting his community when things changed in an instant".
