TSA launches first-ever PreCheck discount for travelers 30 and under

WASHINGTON (WPVI) -- The Transportation Security Administration is offering its first-ever discount on TSA PreCheck enrollment, giving younger travelers a price break ahead of what is expected to be another record summer for air travel.

The promotion takes $20 off the standard $75 enrollment fee for first-time applicants who are 30 years old or younger. The TSA says about 24 million people are currently enrolled in the program, though only a portion fall within that age group.

TSA PreCheck allows travelers to move through airport screening more quickly, and officials say the discount is aimed at boosting participation among younger flyers.

"We've realized that the younger traveler is really underrepresented, and with the busy summer travel season coming up, FIFA, you know, America 250," said Denyse Wells, TSA PreCheck program manager. "We just felt like this was a really great time to offer this discount."

The announcement comes as the Trump administration warns that funding for TSA and other federal agencies could "soon run out" without new appropriations.

Wells said the PreCheck program is fee-funded and able to operate despite broader budget concerns.

During a TSA staffing shortage in March, Philadelphia International Airport temporarily closed its PreCheck terminal first.

Wells said that "aside from some spikes, with wait times, and there were some, temporary closures just due to staffing and volume, overall, TSA PreCheck remained open and continues to run, smoothly and efficiently."

The discount is available throughout the month of May.
