Vigil planned for victims of deadly Wilmington Hospital shooting

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Community members in Delaware are gathering Tuesday to honor the victims of the Wilmington Hospital shooting and reflect on the broader impact of gun violence.

Health care workers, local leaders and residents are remembering Ethan Hillman, 19, who was killed, and Jayden Ellis, 19, who survived after being shot during the June 16 incident.

Organizers have established a fund to support the victims' families and help those affected access resources as they continue to heal.

"Whether you were in the hospital that day or whether you work in that hospital, it's a scary thing to have the feeling of safety broken," said Dr. Bryan Haimes, who organized the event.

Police said John Wallace-Bey, 23, was arrested in Philadelphia hours after the shooting. He is facing first-degree murder and other charges.

According to investigators, Wallace-Bey and the victims were IT interns at the hospital. Authorities said the shooting was targeted and stemmed from a workplace dispute.

Action News will have more on the vigil tonight at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.
