MANASQUAN, N.J. (WPVI) -- The waters off a beach in New Jersey were closed to swimmers over the weekend after 60 syringes washed ashore.

Monmouth County health officials said on Saturday that the water in Manasquan was now off-limits.

The water was reopened to the public on Sunday after officials said the area was re-evaluated following two high-tide cycles.

Officials ask people to report environmental emergencies, chemical spills, illegal dumping, odor complaints, and wildlife concerns to Manasquan Police at 732-223-1000 and NJDEP at 1-877-WARN-DEP.
