Woman shot at while driving in Southwest Philadelphia: police

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police said a woman is lucky to be alive after someone fired several shots at her car while she was parking in Southwest Philadelphia on Thursday.

Police say it happened at around 1 a.m. near 51st Street and Greenway Avenue.

The 20-year-old victim told police that she had just left work and almost made it to her sister's house when someone shot up her car while she was in her car.

Three bullet holes can be seen on the driver's side window, high enough to hit the person in the front seat, but police said not a single bullet struck her.

Police said someone fired at least 9 shots from the middle of the street, striking the car.

The shooter also fired shots, hitting the windshield on the passenger side.

Police believe someone fired at least nine shots from the middle of the street, striking the car.

"She's scared. She's frightened. She's upset because she doesn't know why," said the victim's uncle, Darryl Buck.

Investigators said she drove half a block with broken glass in her face, where family helped her, called police and rushed her to the hospital.

"Initially, staff at the hospital believed that she may have been shot but they recently told us that she has injuries from the driver's door glass that broke from a bullet that passed through," said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Police say they are looking for a dark-colored sedan.
