Woman killed after apparent argument over hamster in Rhawnhurst: Police

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A woman is dead after police say she was shot during an apparent argument over a hamster in the Rhawnhurst section of Philadelphia.

The shooting happened around 5 p.m. Monday on the 7000 block of Langdon Street.

According to investigators, the 19-year-old woman was shot by her boyfriend during the dispute. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Sources tell Action News the boyfriend claims the woman came at him with a knife and screwdriver, and that's when he shot her.

Police have not released additional details.

The boyfriend was taken into custody as part of the investigation.
