Woman killed in hit-and-run remembered by her mom: 'She always had love'

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A mother is mourning the loss of her daughter, who was killed in a hit-and-run crash late Sunday night in Philadelphia.

The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. at the intersection of C and Ruscomb Streets.

Police say 39-year-old Sharmain Serrano was walking southbound in the crosswalk on C Street when she was struck by a vehicle that did not stop.

The driver fled the scene in what authorities now describe as a gray sedan.

Peggy Negron, Serrano's mother, said her daughter's clothing was left behind in the street. Serrano was rushed to Einstein Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

"My daughter always had love... she always had love," Negron said.

Negron described Serrano as a mother of three with a large extended family. She acknowledged her daughter had faced challenges but emphasized the strong bond Serrano maintained with her loved ones.

"If you don't think of nobody, think about her three kids," Negron said. "They deserve answers. These girls will have to grow up without their mom. I know somebody seen something. I just want somebody to come forward, give us some peace."

No arrests have been made.

The Philadelphia Police Department's Crash Investigation Division is asking anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle involved to contact investigators at 215-685-3180.
