Work underway on mural along I-76 as part of beautification project

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A beautification project is underway along the Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia.

Crews are painting a massive mural on the wall abutting I-76 at Spring Garden Street, right along the train tracks.

They have been working in the overnight hours, since they need to halt train traffic for safety.

Mural Arts Philadelphia is overseeing the design and installation of the new artwork over what was a graffiti-filled wall.

It's one of seven sites as part of the "Gateways to Philadelphia" project.

The plan is to make sure the city is more appealing and gives a good first impression when millions of tourists flock to Philadelphia for America's 250th birthday this summer.
