Local family business turns your closet into instant cash

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) -- If you're looking for some extra cash to get through the holiday stretch, look in your closet.

We found a local family business offering instant cash for things you're not using.

No apps, no consignment stores, no stress of waiting for a sale - just cash right then and there.

We all have money sitting around for things we are not using, whether old shoes, jeans, pieces of jewelry, or gifts.

And at Cash In My Bag, a family business in Upper Darby, that's exactly what you get - cash - for things taking up space in your closet.

Unlike consignment, you get that cash on the spot.

"Everything is instant. You do not have to wait for the item to sell - everything you are paid up front," said owner, Michael Zakroff.

And Zakroff says the amount is pretty much what you would get by consigning.

They research the resale potential of your items and offer you a percentage.

"And that percentage is 50 percent. So if something sells for $500 dollars, we are gong to buy it for $250 dollars, just like if you were selling to a consignment shop," he said.

They do the majority of their business online.

Here's how it works. You send pictures, they make you an offer and send you a shipping label.

"You would then ship to us. We appraise and authenticate on hand and issue you a check that day," said Zakroff.

You can also visit them on West Chester Pike there in Upper Darby, but by appointment only.

And while you're selling, you can also shop. They resell all of the merchandise for 70 to 90 percent off retail.

"You get some great names. We buy top designers from Louis Vuitton, to Chanel, to Hermes, to Balenciaga, Gucci, Prada, red bottoms Christian Louboutins," said Zakroff.

This is where fabulous retail goes to fund its new life and what's great is someone will appreciate it and really love it.

And there is one thing to remember: No matter how you sell, this way, at a consignment store or in a marketplace like eBay or Poshmark, you will never get what you paid retail.

But it's something, giving you some newfound buying potential from old items.
