Fire breaks out at Navy Yard, spreads to air craft carrier

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A fire has broken out on a pier at the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia.

The fire started around 9 p.m. Monday at a pier next to an old aircraft carrier on the 4500 block of South Broad Street.

The fire spread to the carrier, but was quickly brought under control.

Action News is told the carrier is out of service and no longer used by the Navy.

Marine units assisted in fighting the fire.

The pier sustained minor damage.

There are no reports of injuries.
