Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Andrew McCutchen will not be ready for Opening Day, manager Joe Girardi told reporters Friday.

The Phillies are instead eyeing an April return for McCutchen, who is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in early June last season.

McCutchen, 33, had expressed optimism earlier this month that he would be able to play in the Phillies' March 26 opener against the Miami Marlins. Girardi told reporters that McCutchen hasn't suffered a setback but also isn't on track to start the regular season.

McCutchen hit .256 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs in 59 games in 2019, the injury snapping a streak of eight straight seasons with at least 20 home runs.
