BARNEGAT TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- Barnegat Township police say officers rescued a girl from jumping from a Garden State Parkway overpass in an apparent suicide attempt.

Police on Monday responded to reports of a girl on the ledge of the West Bay Avenue overpass.

While police stopped traffic leading to the overpass and on the parkway below, other officers started talking to the girl.

Police say Patrolmen Andrew Parsley and Bryan Nogowski managed to step undetected onto the ledge and forcibly pull the girl to safety despite her resistance.

She was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
