Tractor-trailer smashes into vehicle; woman struck

CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- A woman is hospitalized after an accident involving a tractor trailer and an off-duty police officer in Center City Philadelphia.

It happened at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday near the northwest corner of Philadelphia City Hall.

Police say the officer was in a private vehicle and stopped a red light when a tractor trailer making a turn hit the vehicle, sending it up onto a sidewalk.

A woman walking by was hit by the officer's car.

Medics took her to Jefferson University Hospital with stable vital signs.

Neither the tractor-trailer operator nor the officer were injured.

An investigation is underway.
