Top 6: Philadelphia Mediterranean spots - Part 2

In this week's Top 6, Jessica Boyington's tour through the Mediterranean landed her smack in the middle of Turkey and Greece.

The cuisine was freshly prepared, healthy and guilt-free, and much cheaper than a plane ticket.

KANELLA

Stop by Kanella, a BYOB on Spruce Street for Turkish cuisine in a cozy atmosphere. Spring for a spread of classic dips with warm pita and a Kabob platter of Falafel, Ground lamb, or Ribeye. Whether you dine in with a group or take it to go, your palate will appreciate the fresh ingredients and intricate preparation.

What I loved:
-Hummus (with chili oil)
-Halloumi (with apricots, dates, walnuts)
-Ribeye Kabob Platter

-Baklava

ZORBAS

Zorbas Tavern has been sitting on Fairmount Ave for the last 27 years! This neighborhood gem is family-owned, and award-winning for their Greek cuisine. The restaurant has recently received its liquor license, and although you can still bring your personal wine for a corkage fee...I wouldn't bother, because they now offer Greek wines and liquors that you can't get anywhere else. Grab some classic gyros for lunch or a giant dinner sampler with Greek sausages, chicken, and their famous lemon potatoes.

What I loved:
-Cold Combo Dips (Tzatziki, Taramosalata, Skordalia, Melitzanosalata, Kopanisti, Hummus and Dolmades with Pita Bread.)

-Grilled Octopus
-Saganaki (it's lit on fire right in front of you!)
-Calamari
