Philly Grassroots Cup: Kids represent countries in soccer tournament

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- From Japan to Curaçao, kids from across Philadelphia are representing countries from across the world in the Philly Grassroots Cup.

More than 20 teams wore custom jerseys displaying the flag for their respective country, designed by Icarus FC.

Some athletes said they were happy to represent a country even if they had no personal connection to it. They hope it sends a message of diversity and unity.

The kids' version of the event was hosted by Safe-Hub Philadelphia and continues throughout the weekend.

The adult version is organized by Casa Soccer Leagues and continues at various locations across the city until mid-July.

Safe-Hub Philadelphia is kicking off a summer full of soccer activities, including workshops, watch parties, and more. To learn more about upcoming events, visit their website and Instagram page.
