Couple sought after report of baby thrown on train tracks

KINGSESSING -- Philadelphia police are looking for a couple seen on surveillance video around the time a report came in of a man and woman throwing a baby onto train tracks.

The report came in around 11 a.m. Friday by a woman who was driving to work along 68th Street at Kingsessing. She told police she saw a young man and woman standing on a bridge over the tracks.

As she passed them, she told police she looked into her rear view mirror and saw the man kiss what appeared to be a baby and then lean over the bridge, dropping the child.

At this point, no baby has been found. However, police say they have several other pieces of evidence that may corroborate that story.

"We have nothing, at this point, to lead us in the direction that it is not true," said Lt. John Walker of the Philadelphia police.

A train was passing under the bridge at the time.

In the surveillance video, a young woman in Muslim garb and a man in jeans and a t-shirt are seen holding hands.

Investigators spent the afternoon searching the area while K-9 units and a helicopter were brought in to assist.

"We talked to the people operating that particular train. They do describe a male and female on this bridge overpass right where this young lady described them," Walker said.

Two trains have been searched so far.

Investigators believe the couple seen in the video lives in the neighborhood. You are asked to call police if you know who they are.
