1 killed in Brick boating hit-and-run

BRICK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - August 3, 2008 The accident took place at about 1:15 a.m. in Brick Township, near Herring Island, when a 17-foot, single motor recreational boat was struck by another boat that then sped away, said State Police Sgt. Julian Castellanos.

The collision killed Robert Post, 49, of Essex Fells, Castellanos said. It also injured four others on the boat: Post's wife, Bonnie Post, 52; Cliff Farren, 45, and his wife Joan Farren, 46, of St. Davids, Pa.; and Karen Kelly, of Norcross, Ga. Castellanos didn't have an age for Kelly.

The four injured were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. One of the four had injuries that were life-threatening, but Castellanos wasn't immediately sure which one.

The U.S. Coast Guard and the Brick Township fire department was helping in the search for the boat that got away. The search, Castellanos said, was made especially tough because none of the injured was able to get a good look at the boat that hit their craft.

There was also less light than usual because it was two days after a new moon.
