Southwest Philadelphia man charged with animal cruelty

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - January 12, 2014

50-year-old William Miller was charged Saturday night.

Philadelphia police investigating another matter involving Miller discovered the presence of an abundance of animals and feces in the home on the 7400 block of Elmwood Avenue.

Officers contacted the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia who then alerted PSPCA Humane Law Enforcement.

In a statement Sunday, PSPCA Director of Humane Law Enforcement George Bengal said the home "was covered in 4 to 5 inches of feces all around."

The 18 cats were taken to the Erie Avenue shelter where they are being evaluated.

The investigation is ongoing and officers say that more charges are possible.
