SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Meet Michael Eugene and Isaiah Palmer. The 17-year-old boys were on their way to school Tuesday morning when they saw a house on fire in Southwest Philadelphia.
Instead of passing by, the teens put their lives at risk, rushing into the smoke-filled home to save a little boy.
Incredibly, after saving the child's, life the teens simply continued walking to school.
Michael and Isaiah were about 30 minutes late when they arrived to Motivational High School.
Both know that Principal Teli-Johnson doesn't usually tolerate late arrivals.
"Typically I'm not a student to come in late. So it was kind of bizarre for her, she was like, 'Why are you late?' said Michael.
"When I walked into the office, I smelled smoke and I thought, 'Are they coming from a BBQ?" said Principal Rennu Teli-Johnson.
That's when she found out where the boys had been.
"The first pop, we thought it was gun shots," said Michael.
"We looked over and we saw the fire," said Isaiah.
Michael and Isaiah say they went into the home when they noticed that neighbors weren't outside.
"That's when we got the grandfather and the grandchild out and we just ran back outside," said Michael.
Then the two came to school as if nothing had happened.
"It's just a normal day," said Michael.
"I didn't really think it was that much of a big deal," said Isaiah.
Principal Teli-Johnson thought it was a big deal. She made sure the boys were checked out at the hospital and honored them on Wednesday.
"I'm very proud of them, very, very proud of them," said Principal Teli-Johnson.
More good news - no one was hurt in the fire. No word on the cause.
What's next for the young heroes? Michael graduates this year and plans to go to Indiana University of Pennsylvania with dreams of becoming a lawyer one day.
As for Isaiah, he will be a senior next year and he either wants to study engineering or culinary arts.
