A man and woman are dead in what Philadelphia police say appears to be a murder-suicide in a school parking lot. Authorities say a man walked up to two women sitting in a van outside Holy Innocents School in the city's Juniata section and opened fire about 4:15 a.m. Friday.

Police say a woman in the passenger seat was struck twice in the back. The gunman then shot himself. The driver of the van was uninjured.

The woman who was shot was pronounced dead just after 4:30 a.m. at Temple University Hospital. The man died at the scene. His body was still there at 6 a.m.

Police say the man and women apparently knew each other, but the motive for the shooting is unclear.

Classes at the private Catholic elementary school are canceled as a result of the shooting.
