Water erupts from street in Northeast Philly

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - May 14, 2009 Officials were called around 11:00 a.m. to the scene of the 20-inch main break at the intersection of Academy Road and Red Lion Road.

The Water Department tells Action News that it was a Water Department employee who was hit in the leg by the valve when the valve blew off of the main. The worker was transported to Frankford Torresdale Hospital with leg trauma.

Crews were able to turn the main off. The water department turned off the water, replaced the valve and turned the water back on. The intersection was closed during the repairs.
