Officers were called to the home in the 200 block of North Governors Avenue in Dover on Sunday night when the burglar alarm sounded and found a broken window and a pry bar.
Lt. Steve Getek says officers searched the home and found 52-year-old Elwood Fenwick of Dover hiding in a second-floor bedroom
Fenwick was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, attempted theft and possession of burglary tools.
Police say the homeowner was out of town at the time of the break-in.
