HILLIARD, Fla. -- Deputies say they found an 8-week-old baby alone in a camper after they stopped his father for driving the wrong way on a Florida highway.

Nassau County Sheriff's officials say 30-year-old Russell Christopher Bird was arrested on child neglect and drug charges on Tuesday.

The Florida Times-Union reports authorities stopped Bird's truck near the camper where he was living. As deputies were arresting him, Bird started yelling to his landlord to get the baby from the camper. A deputy went inside the camper with the landlord and found the child in a bassinet next to drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine residue.

Deputies contacted the Florida Department of Children and Families, which took the child.

No further details were immediately available. It's not known if Bird has a lawyer.
