Driver strikes officer, 2 police cars in Bensalem chase

BENSALEM, Pa. (WPVI) -- A driver is in police custody after his vehicle allegedly hit a police officer and two police vehicles during a chase in Bucks County.

37-year-old Michael Britton of Levittown is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer during the course of a drug and prostitution investigation.

It began just before noon Friday at Tillman Driver and State Road in Bensalem.

Police say two undercover detectives investigating a prostitution case were approaching an Audi driven by Britton, who had a female passenger in the car.

Police say Britton tried to flee in his car, striking one of the officers and two unmarked police cars.

Fred Harran, Bensalem Director of Public Safety, tells us, "The vehicle then attempted to elude police, striking two unmarked police cars and one of my detectives. The detective was pushed into another car but he appears to be uninjured."

From there a police chase ensued, briefly going in and out of Philadelphia before the Audi struck a third vehicle, this time at State Road and Camer Drive.

Britton and his female passenger were taken into custody. The female passenger, however, was later released, and police say she will not face charges.

The driver of the third vehicle was injured in the collision, but suffered only minor injuries.
