GLOUCESTER TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Three dogs that were rescued from a butcher in Wonju, South Korea, are now in South Jersey, looking for their forever homes.

The dogs - Joey, Liberty and Tisha - were on a dog meat farm, destined to become food for humans.

They were rescued by a group that is trying to stop the practice of farming dogs for meat in South Korea.

The Camden County Animal Shelter in Gloucester Township helped bring the three dogs into the U.S. for medical care and training.

Other local shelters also took some of the animals in, like the Burlington County Animal Shelter in Westampton.

Shelter officials say the dogs are now ready to be adopted by loving families.

"These dogs have overcome insurmountable odds, and have traveled a great distance to find someone to provide them with the love and care they deserve," said Freeholder Jeff Nash, liaison to the Camden County Animal Shelter. "These dogs, along with other animals, are waiting for you to provide them with their forever home."

The dogs' stay at the shelter has proved them with time to adjust, medical care and extensive behavior rehabilitation and training so they can be adopted.

"We are extremely fortunate to be able to rescue these dogs, provide medical attention and care and find them loving homes," shares Vicki Rowland, Executive Director of CCAS.
