Center City bar evacuated due to fire

CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- Dozens of people were temporarily evacuated due to a fire inside a Center City bar.

The fire broke out in the basement of The Varga Bar located at 941 Spruce Street around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police say the bar was preparing to close when smoke started to enter from the basement.

Fire crews were called to the scene.

They evacuated the bar patrons, as well as residents living in the apartments above the business.

No injuries were reported.

The Varga Bar held a block party earlier in the afternoon on Saturday.
