SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Authorities say a vehicle with two people inside hit college campus police officer, who fired on it and killed one of the people inside.
The campus of Spartanburg Methodist College was placed on lockdown as authorities investigated the shooting.
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry told the Spartanburg Herald Journal that the officer was investigating a possible vehicle break-in. When the officer arrived, Berry said two suspects were in the vehicle and the officer tried to detain them.
He says the suspects tried to flee in the vehicle and struck the officer. One suspect was killed and the other was captured a short time later.
The officer wasn't seriously injured.
