COCHRANVILLE, Pa. (WPVI) -- Two local high school students are dead after, police say, carbon monoxide leaked into their car.

Daulton David Pointek, 17, and Carly Marie Imbierowicz, 16, died overnight Friday into Saturday morning.

Police say Pointek and Imbierowicz were returning from a movie when they pulled over at Fernwood Road and Friends Meeting Road in Chester County.

The carbon monoxide leaked into the car from a fracture in the exhaust, police said.

The ignition key was found in the on position and the gas tank had run until it was empty.

"There was no sign of foul play, no sign of suicide," said Tpr. Samantha Mannucci.

Pointek and Imbierowicz were students at Octorara High School. The student body and school administration are shocked and grieving.

"It hit our community hard but it united us. We're hoping it goes back to normal but nothing is going to be normal," said Hannah Keenan.

"They were both very active and well-loved kids on their teams and their coaches are terribly broken up about everything," said athletic director Jamie Bankert.

"It was definitely something we never expected to happen. The odds are just astronomical, I just can't imagine. It's really difficult to comprehend," said Principal Scott Rohrer.

On Sunday night, grieving students held a vigil on their hockey field to mourn.

"I saw her that Friday night because her mom had just gotten surgery and I was dropping food off," Keenan said.

"We said our goodbyes but I didn't think that would be our final goodbye."
