Easton sinkhole that swallowed SUV takes out excavator

EASTON, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- The sinkhole in Easton, Pennsylvania that swallowed an SUV earlier this week has struck again.

This time, it swallowed an excavator Friday night that was on site to make repairs.

Officials say they were able to remove the construction equipment, but it appears a second cave-in may have formed nearby.

It was around 1:30 p.m. Monday at James and East Kleinhans streets when the ground gave way while the driver of an SUV was passing by the area.

Video from a nearby home's Ring camera captured the moment the roadway collapsed.

A man inside the SUV was not hurt.

Beginning Jan. 6, crews plan to start replacing the existing cast iron water main that may have been responsible for the sinkhole.
