FedEx driver shot, critically injured in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A FedEx delivery driver was shot Tuesday morning in the Queen Village section of Philadelphia, police said.

According to police, the shooting happened just before noon in the 800 block of South 3rd Street.

The driver, who was approximately 30 years old, was shot once in the chest and once in the left leg, investigators said.

He was taken by police to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where is was listed in critical condition.

Neighbors in the area said they are shocked by the shooting and that many in the area know the FedEx drivers by name.

Alice Tackett said she was teaching little children virtually when she heard rapid gunfire outside her window .

"Teaching kindergarten, and I heard five gunshots, and I saw someone running in front of here," said Tackett.

Many residents said they're even more shocked at the time of day this happened, just before noon, in a residential area.

"There was a ton of bullets just flying off. You know makes you worried? Where it's going to ricochet to," said resident Andrew Semaan.

One person has been arrested in connection with the shooting, police said. No weapon has been recovered.

"We are aware of the terrible incident involving a team member in Philadelphia this afternoon, and our thoughts are with him during this time. There is no higher priority for FedEx Ground than the safety of our team members. We are cooperating fully with the authorities as they conduct their investigation," said a FedEx spokesperson in a statement.
