VIDEO: Big Talkers
The debate all boils down to a simple question: Is sweet potato pie a dessert, a side dish, or both?

Though delicious, it turns out one Thanksgiving dish is a bit divisive.

The debate all boils down to a simple question: Is sweet potato pie a dessert, a side dish, or both?

Many contend the traditional southern dish is 100 percent a dessert, because its served in a pie crust.

But others argue sweet potatoes are vegetables, regardless of the crust, and nobody considers meat pies dessert.

The side dish people also ask why sweet potato casseroles or candied sweet potatoes aren't thought of as dessert, even though the ingredients are almost exactly the same as a pie.

We posed this question to our viewers, and of 6 p.m., about 500 people had voted.

Forty-nine percent consider sweet potato pie a dessert, 33 percent say its a side dish and 18 percent say both.

You can weigh in until the poll closes at 10 tonight.
