Many Americans getting too much Vitamin D
Many Americans getting too much Vitamin D. Rick Williams reports during Action News at 5 p.m. on June 21, 2017.

Vitamin D is an important nutrient for good bone health, but many Americans are getting way too much of it.

A new study shows some adults taking more than 4,000 units of Vitamin D every day, which is way above the dose of 600 units recommended for those 70 or younger.

It's also far above safe levels.

Experts aren't certain of the impact of long-term high-dose Vitamin D, but some studies suggest it can cause excess calcium in the blood, leading to deposits in blood vessels.
