Concertgoers find unique ways to beat heat for Philly shows

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The heat Friday certainly was brutal.

But it definitely didn't stop anyone from having fun ahead of Adele and Bruce Springsteen shows in South Philadelphia.

They just had to work around it.

Like setting up a tailgate randomly under a tree.

"I was getting a little sweaty so," said Liz Alberto of Haddonfield, New Jersey.

Or under the solar panels at the K lot.

"My sister said let's go under the awning, and her husband, like a good guy, said yes, let's go under the awning, and it's worked out perfectly," said Angie Butcher from Central Indiana.

Or buy chairs with tiny roofs on them.

"They sell them with the canopy," said Paula Lapenta, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

It was so hot earlier, Carol Greenwood and Jackie Nicholson decided to stay in the car until the Wells Fargo Center opened up for Adele.

"Listening to Adele. It's just too hot," said Jackie Nicholson of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Heat or not, Sharon McGeehan and her daughter, Megan, were coming Friday night.

Sharon says 'The Boss' and his music helped her beat breast cancer.

"Thank you Bruce for helping me get through breast cancer. I'm a Philadelphia school nurse, and get your mamos done for all youse women out there," said Sharon McGeehan, breast cancer survivor.

Alex Allen says she's braving the heat to see 'The Boss,' and spread awareness about drunk driving.

"I was in a motor vehicle accident injured by a drunk driver," said Alex Allen, drunk driving victim.

"We're going to pick her up with her wheelchair and we're gonna lift her up so Bruce can see her, and it says Bruce come dance with me," said Tim Hekierski of Lancaster.
