PERKASIE, Pa. -- Beer isn't usually served over hops and sipped through a straw but that's just how Mystic Ways Brewing is serving it.
Hop Mates (pronounced MAH-Tay) wase inspired by a South American drink called Yerba Mate.
"It's basically an herbal drink where you have a little cup, and inside the cup are these leaves from the tea plant. You usually put a straw inside and keep pouring water over it," says co-owner and brewer Joe Winiarski.
Instead of tea leaves, the brewery uses hops. Instead of water, they pour over beer.
Winiarski's sister and co-owner Angie says everyone has been really excited about it.
A beer of your choice is served in a tower, you pick the hops you want and pour the beer over the hops as your drink your beer.
The brewery is run by both Angie and Joe alongside their mom, Alice Krier.
The inside of the brewery is decorated to look like a mystical forest with blacklights and LED lights illuminating the bar.
Along with the Hop Mate, Joe, makes lagers, IPAs, and other small-batch beers.
