RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. (WPVI) -- Ordinary citizens became heroes Sunday in southern California, as they saved a hot air balloon from crashing.
The balloon, carrying about a dozen people, was rapidly losing altitude over a Rancho Santa Fe neighborhood, when people started scrambling out of their homes.
They watched nervously as it headed toward a busy intersection, then ran into a tree.
The pilot finally decided to try landing in the street, and the neighbors grabbed the balloon's rope, to help bring it down.
