Beware of flooding in Philadelphia area

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Mother Nature came in full force throughout the Delaware Valley Wednesday night after heavy rain drenched the region.

The water came in fast, and it wasn't just from the sky

Drivers were faced with some tough decisions as streets quickly flooded, and their cars started taking on water.

The storm also prompted three tornado warnings Wednesday night in Delaware and New Jersey, which have since expired.

Before the storm hit, residents spent the day cleaning up from Tuesday's severe weather that brought down trees across the region.

Path of destruction after storms hit Chester County

Jennifer Melusky is trying to pick up the pieces after the violent storm swept through her neighborhood on Tuesday in Upper Uwchlan Township.

"This all happened in 30 seconds. We were having a beautiful day, and in an instant it was this," she recalled.

Powerful winds uprooted trees and snapped others in half. From Drone 6, you can see the path of destruction. Large trees were thrown on top of houses, trucks, and even pools.

Her neighbor across the street watched the storm as it moved in.

"The next thing all I see is the trees literally, in some sense, blow up and wound up against my pool," recalled John Janicki.

Officials with the National Weather Service don't think it was a tornado that touched down; it was likely straight-line winds.

That doesn't make a difference to the people who live here.

"Whatever it was called, I don't like it," said Linda Janicki.

No injuries were reported.

'It was like a river': Flash flooding damages homes, auto body shop

Residents and businesses in Bucks County are dealing with water damage from Tuesday's storm.

Water filled the parking lot of Kustom Auto Body in Feasterville during the storm.

"When we get weather, we get a little nervous around here," said Kevin Leighton, who owns the auto body shop.

Leighton says thankfully no cars were damaged, but their office and shop did take on about a foot of water.

"Some of our electronic tools that probably won't survive. Spot welders and plastic welders, and stuff like that," he said.

It was also in this area where local fire officials say a few people were rescued from their cars.

In the Croftwood Apartments, several residents were still dealing with flood damage, including Lisa Moon.

"It was like a river, just water flowing. Like we were being swept and everything was floating," she recalled.

Sopping wet towels were still on her floor. She says this is not the first time her apartment, which she shares with her son, has flooded during severe weather.

The manager of the apartment complex says she has been in touch with corporate about the flooding issues and told us she's working to get cleanup crews to the seven units affected.
