Lockdown lifted at Northeast Phila. school after live rounds found, juvenile in custody
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Woodrow Wilson Middle School on Cottman Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia was on lockdown for about two hours Friday because, according to police, a teenage boy brought in three live rounds to the school.
That boy is in custody, but a lot of parents are upset.
Many of them said they found out about the lockdown because their child texted them about it; they did not hear from the school first.
"And when people called the school, they were told 'there's no lockdown, it's just a drill,'" said Margaret Burns. "And I drive past here and there are five cop cars, a K-9 unit, district commander... that's not a drill."
Police cars lined up outside the school and police blocked the doors as parents gathered on the sidewalk, upset, waiting outside for about two hours.
The school district said it is working to let parents know there was a lockdown here. Students said they practice lockdown drills at the school.
No weapon was found inside the school and no one was hurt.
