2nd soldier in Humvee crash on NJ Turnpike dies from injuries

CHESTERFIELD TWP., N.J. -- A second soldier hurt in a military Humvee crash on the New Jersey Turnpike earlier this month has died from his injuries.

Officials say 35-year-old Staff Sgt. Bryce Leek, of LaFargeville, New York, died Thursday.

The accident happened May 1st.

Leek and three other soldiers, including 25-year-old John Levulis, were in the last Humvee of a 12-vehicle convoy in Hamilton traveling to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

Authorities say a vehicle trying to pass hit the Humvee, which ran off the road and hit a tree.

Leek, a married father of three who was driving the Humvee, was ejected and suffered spinal injuries.

Levulis died May 7th, at a hospital in Trenton.

The four soldiers were from the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team at Fort Drum.

The driver of the other vehicle has been charged with reckless driving.
