Feds to N.J. towns: Stop painting center lines blue

TRENTON, New Jersey (WPVI) -- It turns out that a nice gesture toward police is actually a violation of federal policy.

Several New Jersey towns were told to stop adding blue streaks of paint down the middle of the road.

The blue center lines were meant to honor law enforcement.

But the highway administration requires the pavement to be visible in the space between the yellow lines.

All towns were told to get rid of the blue paint. It's unclear what happens if they don't.
