2 men, 2 women wanted in theft of woman's wallet at supermarket

JENKINTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- Two men and two women are wanted in connection with the theft of a woman's wallet in the Jenkintown section of Abington Township.

It happened around 1 p.m. Thursday at a Whole Foods supermarket in the 1500 block of The Fairway.

Surveillance cameras show one man using a folded newspaper to snatch the stolen wallet, while a second man acts as a shield, blocking the victim's line of site as she bags bagels.

"My stomach just dropped, I started shaking. It was the worst feeling in the world," said Theresa Delgaiso upon discovering she had been robbed.

When we showed her the surveillance footage, she told us she had no idea what was going on at the time of the incident.

"A guy who was well dressed, who look like your neighbor, put his hands in my handbag in one split second and walked out the store," said Delgaiso. "What I saw from the surveillance, it was just nauseating."

"This was not a spur of the moment type of crime," said Abington Township Police Deputy Chief John Living. "This was well planned and thought out, and it's evidence by the fact of two people involved - one serving as a blocker - and as well as females who then take the cards and used them."

Thirty minutes later, police say women used the stolen credit cards at a nearby Target, spending more than $1,000 in merchandise and gift cards.

Delgaiso tells us it's not the charges, but her father's now stolen dog tags that hurts the most.

"I am so anal about my handbag, and everybody else should really be even more anal because just to turn your back for one second, one split second and have your life taken away from you, all your memories," said Delgaiso.

Police are asking people not to make themselves targets by leaving purses in unattended shopping carts.
