RIVERSIDE, N.J. (WPVI) -- Firefighters rescued two people from a burning building in Burlington County early Wednesday.

The blaze broke out at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday on one side of a two-unit residence in the 300 block of Filmore Street in Riverside.

Fire officials say crews found two people from an upstairs apartment standing on the roof to escape the flames. Firefighters pulled them to safety.

Both were taken to an area hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Both were said to be doing okay.

It took firefighters about 45 minutes to put the blaze under control.

Action News is told it started in an upstairs apartment.

Officials said there were working smoke detectors in the building and that a firewall prevented the blaze from spreading to the other residence in the two-unit building.

Investigators were on the scene working to determine the cause.
