A 9-year-old boy is on the mend after shooting himself in the finger in Philadelphia's Grays Ferry section.

GRAYS FERRY -- A 9-year-old boy is on the mend after shooting himself in the finger in Philadelphia's Grays Ferry section.

The incident occurred after 11 p.m. Thursday on the 1500 block of South 32nd Street.

Police say the child pulled the trigger after finding the gun in his parents' room.

The gun discharged one time, causing an injury to his left ring finger.

The boy was taken to Children's Hospital, and listed in good condition. He has since been released from the hospital.

Police say the gun was legally purchased.

The investigation is ongoing.
