Live rats placed in home in Grays Ferry after dispute, police say

Philadelphia Police were called to a home in the 1200 block of South 28th Street after 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 for what they initially thought was a home invasion. Officers found basement windows and front door windows broken. Inside the home they found a number of live rats.

PHILADELPHIA - April 3, 2014 -- Philadelphia Police say it appears a dispute on social media led someone to put live rats in a home in Grays Ferry.



It happened Wednesday night.



Police were called to a home in the 1200 block of South 28th Street after 11:00 p.m. for what they initially thought was a home invasion.



Officers found basement and front door windows broken.



Inside the home they found a number of live rats.



Investigators say it appears someone dumped two boxes of the rodents in the home. It happened after a dispute on Instagram involving someone at the residence.



Police said one person was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for a possible heart problem.



There was no immediate word on suspects or arrests in the case.



An investigation into the incident is continuing.
