OVERBROOK (WPVI) -- The winter weather has caused a lot of problems on our roadways.

Potholes seem to be opening up more and more.

In different lanes, in all shapes and sizes, potholes along City Avenue near 77th in Overbrook are plaguing drivers.

Chopper 6 was overhead Wednesday as crews patched up the Schuylkill Expressway by City Avenue.

From December 1st to January 28th, PennDOT has filled more than 850 potholes in the five county area.

This time last year that number exceeded 1,000.

According to PennDOT, repaving miles of roads has helped improve their pothole statistics, plus the temperatures haven't yo-yoed as dramatically as last winter.

Still, tis the season and it can be a bumpy ride.

At Dr. Ralph's Automotive Services Center in Roxborough, pothole repairs are coming in, though less often than last year.

Ridge Avenue is one of the roads in this area known for potholes and drivers may consider a realignment in the coming months.

"Whether dodging them or hitting them, typically you will need a realignment; it's safer for your wheels and better for your car all around," Loreta Montenegro of Dr. Ralph's said.
